Mitchell Wright
Head Varsity Coach
Coach Wright enters his first year as head coach at Huntsville High School after spending the last 4 years as the Head Coach at Hazel Green High School. Coach Wright graduated from Buckhorn High School in 2011 as the program’s all time (pitching) wins, doubles, and RBI leader. He attended and played baseball at the University of West Alabama, Calhoun Community College (2013 All-Conference selection), and the University of Alabama in Huntsville. During his time at UAH, he was a member of the 2014 GSC Championship Team, was selected as the GSC Pitcher of the week, was an All-GSC Honorable Mention selection in 2015, and was a key contributor to the record setting and breaking 2015 team.
After completing his playing career, Coach Wright was a Student and Volunteer Assistant coach at UAH during the 2016 and 2017 seasons, advancing to the GSC Championship game in 2016. In the Fall of 2017, Coach Wright was hired as the pitching coach at Tennessee Tech University. He was integral to the Golden Eagles 2018 staff which turned in the OVC’s best team ERA and lowest in program since 2014. While at Tennessee Tech, Coach Wright served as the Pitching Coach, Recruiting Coordinator, Hitting Coach, and Interim Head Coach. During his 4 seasons in Cookeville (2018-2021), Coach Wright won an OVC Championship, Regional Championship (Oxford, MS), Super Regional Appearance (Austin, TX), League Leaders in ERA, Strikeouts, and Opponent batting average, National Home Run Leaders, and had 18 players drafted in the MLB draft, including 2 top 7 round selections.
Coach Wright graduated from the University of Alabama in Huntsville in December of 2016 earning degrees in both history and secondary education. He is married to the former Lacy Anderson of New Market, AL. They have two boys, Harrison (4) and Walker (7mo).
Cory Mason
Assistant Varsity Coach
Coach Mason is a 2017 graduate of Buckhorn High School and is entering his first season with Huntsville High School. He comes from Hazel Green High where he spent two years coaching baseball. At Hazel Green, he was a Varsity Assistant and helped with hitters and infielders. Coach Mason spent two years at Lawson State Community College playing baseball before transferring to Shorter University to finish out his final 3 years of eligibility. At Shorter, he earned a B.S. in History and a Master’s degree in Pedagogy. He married his wife, Morgan, in September 2023.
Jason Scott
Assistant Varsity Coach
Coach Jason Scott is entering his first season at Huntsville High School, bringing 24 years of coaching experience to the Varsity baseball program. A graduate of Wilson High School in Zip City, Alabama, Coach Scott continued his playing career at Northwest Shoals before completing his degree at the University of North Alabama, where he earned a B.S. in Secondary Education.
Coach Scott joins Huntsville after a highly successful 13-year tenure as Head Baseball Coach at Madison County High School, where he led the program to six playoff appearances and more than 200 career wins. During that time, he was named 4A Coach of the Year in 2021 and 2024, and he was also selected to coach the North Team in the 2024 North-South Baseball Games in Montgomery.
Prior to Madison County, Coach Scott spent eight seasons at Buckhorn High School (2002–2010), serving as the JV Head Coach and Varsity Assistant Head Coach, helping develop players and strengthen the foundation of the program.
Coach Scott is married to Cassie, and they have one son, Memphis (19), who is a freshman baseball player at UAH.
Roger Wright
Assistant Coach
A 1983 graduate of Lee High School, Wright helped lead the Generals Baseball team to two state semi-finals appearances in 1981 and 1983. His career wins on the mound make him the school’s all-time wins leader. These accomplishments led to opportunities to play at Calhoun Community College where he was the Team MVP and all-conference selection. Wright finished his playing career at the University of North Alabama.
After his playing career, Wright began coaching football, basketball, and baseball at Lee High School. In 1997 he took the head baseball job at Buckhorn High School. While at Buckhorn (1997-2014), his teams reached the playoffs 14 times. Wright retired at Buckhorn in 2014 and became the pitching coach at the University of Alabama Huntsville (UAH) for two seasons. He returned to Buckhorn as the head coach in 2017 and made the playoffs in 2017 and 2019. While at Buckhorn, his teams amassed 453 wins. He was named Huntsville Metro Coach of the year five times. He returned to UAH in 2020 as a pitching coach and 3rd base coach until the end of 2024.
Wright has won three gold medals as part of the USA National 12U Baseball team. His teams won gold medal in the World Baseball Classic in Mexico (2023), Panama (2024), and Taiwan (2025).
Wright was inducted in the Huntsville/Madison County Hall of Fame in 2016 and the Alabama Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2022.
Roger is married to Belinda and they have three sons, Mitchell (wife Lacy), Kyle (wife Shelby), and Trey (wife Haley) and three grandsons, Harrison, Walker, and Everett.
Levi Terry
Junior Varsity Coach
Levi Terry was a 1999 graduate of Austin High School. While attending Austin he was a member of the Football and Baseball teams. Levi was a walk-on at the University of North Alabama Football team for the 2001 season. Levi graduated from UNA in 2004 and received his undergraduate degree in Fitness Management and Business Administration. He also received an undergraduate degree in Physical Education and Health in 2008. Levi started his coaching career in 2007 at Decatur High School; he then coached Football and Baseball in Limestone County for 5 years before returning to Decatur High School in 2013. At Decatur he coached Football and was a Baseball assistant on Coach Lamm’s staff. He most recently served as the Defensive Coordinator for Decatur High School for the past three seasons. This will be Levi’s 18th year coaching and his second year at Huntsville High School. He is married to Sunee and has two daughters - Ellie and Ocie.
Charlie Wilburn
Junior Varsity Coach
Coach Wilburn is entering his second year at Huntsville High School and his 21st year in coaching overall. He comes to Huntsville after serving as Head Football Coach at Hazel Green High School for two seasons, leading the program to a playoff berth in his first season. Coach Wilburn spent four years at Grissom High School from 2012 to 2015. During his time at Grissom he was part of a baseball staff that led the program to two quarter-final appearances in the state playoffs, serving first as JV Head Coach and later Varsity Assistant Head Coach.He is a graduate of Lee High School in Huntsville and holds a bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, a master’s degree in Reading Instruction from the University of West Georgia, and a master’s in Educational Leadership from Louisiana State University. He is married to the former Jennifer Huff of Huntsville, and they have one son, Garrett (6).
Jody Slay
Freshman Coach
Coach Slay enters his third season with HHS baseball. He has been a resident of Huntsville for the last 25 years. Coach Slay was a student athlete for Alabama A&M University where he graduated with a B.S. in Psychology and a Minor in Biology. Coach Slay also obtained a Masters Degree from Adelphi University. Coach Slay is married to Dr. Carlquista Slay and has two beautiful daughters Camiah and Jaliyah.
